Bonobo Conservation fiction novel:

http://www.agikissfiction.com/
Dear Mick Curtis,
Your email address came up from a search of people who
might be interested. I have written a book on
Chimpanzees, Bonobos and other apes using
sign-language from a Christian point of view. It
includes a brief history of the research into teaching
apes sign-language and keyboards, and then gets down
to the implications for the relations of apes to man
and whether they have minds etc. An appendix covers
the treatment of chimpanzees in research labs, and the
campaign for humane conditions. See below for more
details.
Keiran Proffer

Chimpanzees have been taught sign-language and are
apparently using it intelligently. This causes real
problems for Christians, who from the beginning have
believed that the ability to speak was the sign of an
immortal soul. Do we now have to baptise chimpanzees?
Are they really talking, or is it just conditioned
reflex?
Christian writers have almost completely avoided
this subject. In a new book, 'Adam, Darwin and Washoe'
the author first gives a brief history of scientific
communication with apes, then makes it clear that
these discoveries are no threat to Christian beliefs.
Quite the reverse, they shed a great deal of fresh new
light on the nature of man and the book of Genesis.
Questions like 'who were the mysterious ‘sons of god’
mentioned in Genesis 6', and 'who did Cain marry'
suddenly have an answer. Even 'Adam's rib' can be
explained in a way which makes sense to today's
readers.
Washoe (pronounced 'Wash-oh'), by the way, was the
first chimpanzee to be taught sign-language. In the
end she learned 1,000 signs. Standard English is 850
words.
All this is done in a very readable style, easily
accesible to the general reader. This is the first
book on a Christian view of apes using sign-language
to be published in Britain.
N.B. The author does not take the view that all the
Bible is literally true.
The normal price is £3.99, but you may have it for
£3.00, including p&p.

What the press said about 'Adam, Darwin and Washoe':

'Very interesting, debatable and readable' – Premier
Christian Radio.

'A text for a lively discussion group' – Independent
Catholic News (www.indcatholicnews.com)

'A hot topic that Christian writers have neglected' -
Church Times.
